New Website

Downloaded WordPress and opened an account with BlueHost to host both Aleso's real Estate site and my Book sites-
One for Shades and Mendocino thrillers and mysteries- and maybe for Bertholimieu (haven't decided what kind of story this is going to be) and a second site for my AVM Thriller series- kid's stories.

Have a blog through Google and now with Wordpress- that's simple enough, but doing a website with Wordpress is slightly beyond my capabilities- have already bought a copy of WordPress design for dummies- that's me- at least for now.

It's been raining for 4 days now and I've just got over a severe case of bronchitis- Many thanks to Irv and Cheryl Johnson- best Doc/nurse combo in the world- for helping me get through.

Thinking of Fly-Fishing and JD- my buddy- I miss him dearly. Steelhead have been swimming in the California rivers and I think I'll head north to try my luck. Probably just to the Russian River for some writing, fishing and wine-

Should be fun.

rejection

Another rejection for one of my novels- Josh Getzler- agent from New York- sent a form email response- SO SAD-

I would have liked to have worked with him. He and his dad had owned and managed a baseball farm team- would have loved to have heard some stories.

And my connection in Louisville didn't pan out- tough luck.

on to the next.

Gaels

Saint Mary's Gaels are now 20 and 21 in the polls- BUT - this week will really test them. They take on an extremely tough LMU team and then a ride into BYU will again test their mettle.

If they come to play with an attitude like they did against the Zags- they may be able to win both.

Then, with luck, maybe we will be sent to the east coast to try our hand against the powerful Murray State team (currently ranked 9th and 11th) for the ESPN bracketbuster.

Giants

Giants in the Super Bowl-
Even Living in California- my sons and their girlfriends, my wife and my neighbors have all converted to bleeding blue.
Very tense game against a tough 49er team- we were fortunate to have had the last shot at a field goal. Honestly felt it could have gone either way.
On to the Super Bowl- and Go Gee-Men.

Carl Icahn letter- 3/8/2011

A portion of Icahn's letter to clients- "I am pleased that our funds have earned gross returns of 33.3% and 15.2% in 2009 and 2010, respectively, as well as returns of approximately 8.7% through February 2011. Despite our losses in 2008, since inception of our funds in late 2004 we have had gross returns of 106.9%.

While it may sound "corny" to some, the losses that were incurred by investors in our funds in 2008 bothered me a great deal more, in many respects, than my own losses. Perhaps this is because over the years I have become inured to dealing with large "paper" losses for myself. During 2008 and part of 2009, unlike many other funds, we did not impose "gates" on our investors that would have prevented them from withdrawing capital from our funds if they chose to do so. Therefore investors seeking liquidity did withdraw a fair amount of cash from our funds. Additionally, rather than liquidating positions that we believed in, we infused our own new capital into our funds which provided cash for withdrawing investors. As a result, fee paying assets now constitute only 25% ($1.76 billion) of total assets in the funds of approximately $7 billion.

While we are not forecasting renewed market dislocation, this possibility cannot be dismissed. Given the rapid market run-up over the past 2 years and our ongoing concerns about the economic outlook, and recent political tensions in the Middle East, I do not wish to be responsible to limited partners through another possible market crisis. After careful consideration of all relevant factors, we have determined to return all fee paying capital to investors."

Saint Mary's Gaels basketball

Saint Mary’s Gaels

Just returned from Vegas where the Gaels men and women lost both championship games to Gonzaga – virtual home games for the Bulldogs. Both of our teams had outstanding years. We have been very fortunate to witness and root for the Gaels during this extended run of winning basketball.

It will be interesting to see the rivalry of fan bases between BYU and the Zags next year. By Monday 2012 championship night, if any other two teams are in the final- it will be as quiet as a Tuesday afternoon practice, sneakers squeaking, coaches voices resonating throughout the near vacant stands. I’m looking forward to the Gales playing USF !

Zags women- what an absolute clinic- for the entire WCC season. They are so strong in all facets of team ball, I hope they strongly represent our conference by going deep into the NCAA tourney.
